dear love,

what can i say?

sometimes spoken syllables slip away

from my tongue and get lost

somewhere in the wind and die,

my lips could try to mumble

pretty things, stumbling rings around the point

until it’s too late and the moment passes

but this new weight of importance masses

inside my head,

(i gotta get this out.)

my heart should be read instead of spoken,

so i’ll write.

i’ll write,

i’ll write to you,

i’ll write because ink is lite and full of life,

flowing through my veins

like venice boats down water,

lanes and streets.

my heart beats fast, pumping out

past and present thoughts I never told you

past and present secrets I never whispered

or showed you with my lips,

it’s tragic that it takes

the drip of blue onto trees

to conjur magic, but it does, I think.

this ink gives breath and wings to paper,

words are birds that sing

to the hollow of hearts and every other part

echoing inside the dark emptiness alive,

taking flight and touching skies

i choke,

i choke,

i choke holding my breath,

holding onto the hope that the envelopes

don’t come back

unopened

and that all the words spoken by my pen

aren’t just ghosts.

the thought of you reading this

frightens me the most,

but my pen is brave, even if i’m not,

and when it leaks,

when it speaks

it bares my mind naked to you completely

in every letter

of every letter.

every letter i write in spite of myself

is a tiny migration of secret conversations

shared from my heart, to your heart,

stranded beneath the stars alone,

and so far apart.

(shh, listen)

i want you to listen.

i need you to listen,

i simply,

need you.
